Holiday at Home

by Sue Kenchington

Four years ago, I became aware of the possibility of running a "Holiday at Home" from an article in the "Ely Ensign" the Diocesan magazine. I realised that a holiday away is a real difficulty if you are older and not so mobile. It is also no fun alone. After the first one proved a success, this is now an annual event . It takes place for three days and occupies all the church rooms.

What do we do?

Activities are offered during the morning and entertainment during the afternoon. These include, amongst others:

  • flower arranging
  • woodwork
  • painting
  • jewellery making
  • glass painting
  • carpet bowls
  • keep Fit

Refreshments and home cooked lunch are part of the deal as well as afternoon tea. This event is well received by members, their friends, folks from church and their relatives. There is a nominal cost and a subsidised day outing at the end of Holiday at Home. Numbers of guests and helpers are growing each year. Recently we have been pleased to include gentlemen in our three day 'holiday' and have included activities that may appeal to them. We hope that for the men too this will become a regular annual event.

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
