How Holiday Club is organised

Once a year we run a Holiday Club for Children from Reception to Year 6. Typically, it is held around the second week of the summer holiday and involves the whole Church Community. The Club runs from 9.30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday.

Wednesday afternoon the children have an activity afternoon which may involve going out for the afternoon to a nearby attraction and usually includes a variety of games and activities. The children return by 6.00pm to the church where there is a buffet tea for all children and their families. On the Friday evening at 6.30pm there is a final Holiday Club service when all parents and friends are invited to join the children and experience a little of what they have been up to in the week.

Planning for each year's club starts early in the Spring as leaders and helpers find out the theme for the year and start the planning for their particular areas. Leaders come from all areas of church life and from other churches too but they are all CRB checked and have training in Child Protection. Adult leaders wear Blue T Shirts and are called "Blue T Shirts", but we also encourage teenagers from Year 8 onwards to join in supervised leadership and they all wear Red T Shirts. The children themselves are given a T Shirt for the week with the Club Logo on which they wear each day.

The weekend before the club starts, the church is transformed into a totally different place. Once we went "Trekking", we have been to Egypt in Joseph's time, and we have been to Israel in the time when Jesus was alive and even transformed the church into a mini-Bar Hill for the 40th anniversary of the village. This year the theme of the Club is "Good News Explosion" but the children will have to come along to find out what that involves!

The children are divided into groups of approximately 10, with a team name and leaders. Each day begins with time in their team area which has been decorated accordingly. The day includes singing, drama, games, teaching time and craft time, as well as well earned drinks and biscuits! One day they do cooking, and another day there is an outside activity.

Many of the children (and adults) come year after year, and look forward to this very special week each year.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs."

- Matthew 19 v 14
